-The Upper Michigan Center for Interventional Oncology is very pleased to announce that we are now offering one of the most innovative therapies available for the treatment of non-resectable cancers of the liver. As one of the only two sites in the state of Michigan offering treatment for liver tumors utilizing radioactive SIR-Spheres by Sirtex Medical, we are now able to offer additional options to patients with cancer of the liver who cannot be treated with traditional surgical removal. These tiny plastic beads are injected into the artery supplying the tumor and provide focused radiation to tumor, while minimizing radiation damage to healthy normal tissues of the body.
